Richard Norton Smith is a writer and historian, and currently serves as the Director of the Gerald R. Ford Museum and Library in Grand Rapids, MI. He has written speeches for Presidents Reagan and Ford, Elizabeth Dole, Cabinet officers and members of Congress. He was also a finalist for the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for his first major book and biography, Thomas E. Dewey and His Times. Other subjects written about by Mr. Smith include Herbert Hoover, George Washington and Robert McCormick. Mr. Smith graduated from Harvard University in 1975 with a degree in government. Douglas Brinkley is the Director of the Eisenhower Center for American Studies and professor of history at the University of New Orleans. He holds a doctorate in U.S. diplomatic history from Georgetown University. In 1992, Dr. Brinkley wrote The Majic Bus, a book recounting his trip across the United States with 17 undergraduates from Hofstra University and their study of American culture. He has also written award-winnning books on Dean Acheson, President Jimmy Carter and FDR and the Creation of the UN.
John Splaine teaches at the University of Maryland in the College of Education. He is a former high school history teacher in both New Hampshire and Maryland. He earned his B.A. and M.A. degrees in American History at the University of New Hampshire, and his doctorate in education at Boston University. Dr. Splaine has served as a consultant to C-SPAN, the television network, since 1987. He is also the author of several books including Road to the White House Since Television, Politics: Communicating A Message, and A Companion to the Lincoln-Douglas debates. Edna Greene Medford teaches at Howard University in the Department of History. A nationally recognized lecturer on African-Americans in slavery and freedom, she is a member of the Scholars Advisory Board of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and the Lincoln Forum Advisory Board. She earned her B.S. degree from Hampton Institute, her M.A. at the University of Illinois, and her doctorate from the University of Maryland. She also sits on the board of directors of Borders Group, Inc.
