42. How many presidents have been impeached?
Great job! In 1868, the House of Representatives voted to impeach President Andrew Johnson, but the Senate failed by one vote to convict him during the impeachment trial. In 1999, the House voted to impeach President Bill Clinton for perjury, but he too was not convicted by the Senate. In 1974, President Richard Nixon resigned from office prior to the House vote on impeachment. No president has been removed from office due to impeachment.
